Why Seeing an Intern Therapist Might Be the Best First Step

Starting therapy can feel like a lot.

You’re opening up about things you’ve carried alone. You’re letting someone witness what you often hide. You’re not just telling your story—you’re feeling it.

If you’ve never done therapy before, or you’re nervous about what it’s going to be like, working with an intern therapist might be the most supportive, low-pressure place to begin.

Here’s why.

Interns aren’t “less than”—they’re becoming.

Intern therapists are in the final stages of their Master’s level training. They’ve done the coursework, passed the Jurisprudence ethics exam, and now they’re doing the most important part of their education: learning how to be with real people in a real therapy room.

What does that mean for you?

It means you’re working with someone who is:

  • Highly supervised by an experienced clinician

  • Supported by a full team at our wellness space

  • Showing up with intention, energy, and heart

  • Up-to-date on the latest therapeutic approaches and trauma-informed care

They're deeply present with you—because this is where they’re learning how to be a great therapist.

It’s often more affordable.

Let’s be real: therapy can be expensive. Working with an intern therapist allows you to access high-quality, compassionate care at a reduced rate, while still being supported within a professional, supervised setting.

At our wellness space, intern sessions are offered at $65–$120 per session (you can insert your sliding scale here), and each intern is mentored weekly to ensure clients are well taken care of.

You get support now—without putting it off because of cost.

You’re helping shape the future of therapy.

Every therapist starts somewhere.

By working with an intern, you’re part of that beginning. You’re helping someone learn how to hold space, how to listen deeply, and how to support people like you with care and integrity.

That’s powerful. That’s relational. That’s co-creation.

How Internships Work at ėVölva

At ėVölva, we don’t just throw interns into the deep end. We’ve created a training space where emerging therapists are:

  • Closely supervised by senior therapists

  • Trained in our core values: relational, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed care

  • Integrated into our team with ongoing mentorship, clinical consultation, and peer learning

  • Encouraged to bring their full self—culture, identity, lived experience—into the room with you

Interns are matched with clients based on fit, and you're never just “a practice case.” You’re a human being. You’re taken seriously. You’re treated with respect.

New to therapy? Start here.

You don’t have to have the perfect words.
You don’t need to know what your goals are.
You don’t even need to know why you’re coming in.

Sometimes, you just know it’s time.

If you’re ready to explore therapy—but you want to do it in a space that’s low-pressure, collaborative, and supportive—we’d love to connect you with one of our incredible intern therapists.
